| The two most exciting pieces of equipment at the rehab
center are the Ferno Underwater Treadmill and the VetSystems Hydrotherapy
tank with electric stimulation. The underwater treadmill allows
a dog recuperating from surgery to exercise in a controlled fashion,
with buoyancy to prevent stress on the joints. Dogs that previously
took 6 months to fully recover from knee surgery are now back to
normal in 6-12 WEEKS.
The buoyancy of the underwater treadmill assists dogs with hind
leg paralysis like Jasper and Lucky. We were able to re-train
Jasper (who had both hind legs paralyzed) and Lucky (who had a
stroke like condition that left one half his body partially paralyzed)
to walk again. Without the underwater treadmill, neither
dog would be walking normally at this time!
The Hydrotherapy tank with electric stimulation is also the only
one of its kind in the state, and is unparalleled in its ability
to reduce pain and inflammation. Dogs like Robbie, a dachshund
with back pain, or Drake Davis, a chocolate lab who injured his
knee on the first day of the hunt, have benefited from the healing
and anti-inflammatory properties of this tank.
We use a variety of techniques for strengthening hind limb and
back muscles using large physio-balls. We help balance and
coordination using rocker boards or other therapeutic exercises. Much
like a human physical therapist, we will prescribe various exercises
for you to do with your dog at home. |
